If your needs are specific, you can start at an online site like AbeBooks.com. This website is terrific because it offers both used and new books from sellers all over the world. Each book’s condition is fully described. Shop around, and be sure to check shipping rates before you order. A $1 book may be more expensive through one seller than a $2 book through a competitor because of high handling costs.

While you can expect some word-of-mouth advertising to come from those who feel you have a truly outstanding store it is important to make a concerted effort to motivate existing customers to help grow your customer base. This can be easily done by providing rewards to those shoppers for bringing in new clients for your business. Often existing customers will also be happy to tell others if there are rewards or discounts to those who are referred; family and friends who come in as a result of their efforts.
2) Organizations within your community. Many local organizations are in need of donations, ideas and participation. After opening a dollar store get your store noticed by selecting one or two that interest you and becoming involved. While only a small amount of time and little investment is required, you will be recognized. Don’t forget to make meetings an opportunity to network with others.

The word will get out about your generosity.

Proven Tactics To Grow Bottom Line Results After You Open A Dollar Store
Achieving success after you open a dollar store business involves a relatively simple formula. The formula requires you to increase the number of sales transactions made in your store. As sales transaction numbers climb focus on increasing the size of the average sales transaction in your store. To this you blend continued focus on reducing the cost-of-goods-sold. In this article I present proven tactics to grow bottom line results after you open a dollar store. We will examine each component of this equation.
First let’s examine how to increase the number of sales transactions in your store. There are basically two ways this can be achieved. First you can increase the number of new shoppers who enters your store. If all other variables remaining unchanged, the more shoppers coming through the front door, the greater the number of sales transaction in your store. The second way to increase the number of sales transaction is if you increase the frequency with which existing customers return to your store. The more often they return the greater the number of purchases they will make. Let’s take an example. Let’s assume your average traffic is 200 visitors per day and you make 100 sales. For this example we’ll also assume the average sale in your store is $10.00. What if you could get an extra 50 people to enter your store each day? All things remaining equal, that should mean 25 extra sales in your store. 25 extra sales with a $10.00 average sales size equal $250.00 in extra sales per day or about $91,250.00 in added sales per year.
Next let’s examine increasing the average sale size. Now intuitively it makes sense that we will increase our total sales just by increasing the number of sales made. However if you open a dollar store and then take that approach you are leaving sales on the table. You are failing to focus effort on increasing the average size of your store sales. Increasing the average sales size requires that the number of items (or the total dollar value of sales if you are greater than $1.00 price point.) in the average sales transaction increase. For example, if your store completes 100 sales during an average day and you total sales for the day total $1,000.00, then your average sales transaction size is $10.00. What if you completed the same 100 sales, but your average transaction size increases by just $1.00? All of a sudden your total sales are $1,100. You’ve just increased your total store sales by a whopping $100.00 per day, or about $36,500.00 per year!
Increasing traffic and also increasing the size of your average sale should be enough to positively impact your bottom line results after you open a dollar store. The reality is they aren’t enough. You need one other important ingredient; lower cost-of-goods sold. In fairness, you are losing money if there aren’t continuous efforts focused on reducing all costs associated with your business. In fact this is so important that it should become either a strategic objective each year, or a part of your business plan, or both. Lowering the cost-of-goods-sold by even one-cent can have immense results. If you are selling at the dollar price point and total sales for the year were $365,000 with a 50-cent cost-of-goods-sold, what happens if you do reduce COGS by 1-cent? In our example you have a 50-cent COGS or $182,500 for the year. A 1-cent reduction means COGS would be reduced to $178,850. That’s an amazing $3,650.00 to the bottom line!
If you open a dollar store be sure to place emphasis on all three components discussed here. Each is a piece of the puzzle that can really pay huge dividends for your business. While each requires different actions, they must all receive your attention. Invest the time, effort and money to make them work for your business. Give it a try!

One of the challenges associated with owning and operating your own retail store is to continually stay on top of the millions of tasks you face every day. For many the feeling of being jerked around from one task to the next means things never seem to be completely done. Then, some of the very core tasks that must done, and done right, start to slip. Soon a smooth running store begins to falter. In this article we will review some of the critical basics when opening a dollar store. These are the things that must never be compromised in your store.
1) Key products must always be readily available to your customers. In today’s competitive environment shoppers are unforgiving when they come to your store for a basic item and find it is out of stick. There is little solace when your response is that the product is on order and will be coming in soon. That once loyal shopper will make a bee-line to your competitor. Know what your shoppers need and have those items in-stock at all times.
2) Staffing becomes more critical in tough economic times. While you may be totally justified in reducing payroll in tight times, don’t allow yourself to lose the most critical piece of the formula for success. Don’t allow your strong customer service oriented employees to get away! Negotiate for part-time hours until sales increase. Identify other tasks that will add value and sales and have them addressed. Continue employee training and development. Position your store for future success.
3) Location and signage. Never lose track of the quality of location you have leased. If you are on a main thoroughfare with a solid anchor business close by don’t sit back and assume all is okay. Be sure you are continually working to promote your store. Look for opportunities to add extra signage to gain extra attention. For example, if you are in a mall location and there are vacancies, is now the time to improve your location? Possibly your landlord would allow a small display and signage pointing toward your store until a new tenant is found. 
If you are in a less obvious location, look for opportunities to point the way to your store. Extra signs, a sign-holder, or even flyers are all potential options. When opening a dollar store your goal is to highlight the way to your store for as many people as possible.
4) Store environment. Make sure everything is just right at all times. Keep the store well-lit and include signage to make it easy to spot pricing and merchandise. Establish a process to ensure employees walk-through and return misplaced items to their rightful locations. Don’t forget to spot sweep the floor periodically throughout the day. Don’t forget to play pleasant music that will appeal to the majority of your targeted shoppers. Make it fun to come to your store and shop.
5) Customer service must remain the cornerstone of your business. Lead your customer service philosophy by example. Make sure every shopper who enters the stores is welcomed. Stop and say ‘hello’ to shoppers whenever you are on the sales floor. Make sure to offer help locating the products they seek. Thank everyone for coming into your store. Don’t ever forget to add a friendly ‘thank you’ once sales transactions are completed.
